I want to travel route 66 on a motorbike?

Has anybody travel'd route 66 in America on a bike before if so how did you find the experience. I live in the U.K I am thinking of going there in the next couple of years to travel this road with a few mates. Should we take tent's as well as money for hotels and are there plenty of pubs and caf�'s about this road an places of interest I am going for 2 weeks how much money will I need for food and drink plus hotel and petrol would be great if you could let me no cheers.
