What are my rights when it comes to promoting a cause around my state college's campus?

I want to advocate a cause at my local state college. In other words, I want to carry a sign out to the main open-air plaza and let people have the freedom to come and speak to me on the issue. What are my rights in this respect? Can someone direct me to somewhere I can get more info on this?
