Return a lost iPod touch?

2 days ago I was just walking to a plaza and on the streets I saw an 32 iPod touch 3rd generation iPod touch!! I looked around but no one was ahead of me! So now I have it. The thing is I know how it feels to lose something or get things stolen. It sucks I know exactly what the persons going through. I want to return it back but I can't go in his or her iPod and find things about him or her because there's a lock password it I get rid of it all the data will be gone. So I put it up on craigslist, I can see the persons songs so they have to go on their iTunes and tell me which song is next. What else can I do to return it???
